THE 1968 SEASON:

Buller began its fourth quarter century with something of a hangover from the celebrations of the previous 75 years.

Although the team toiled valiantly, its only win was a 14-13 victory over Nelson.

Despite that, however, there were some good omens for the future. A future Buller stalwart in Gerald Hart made the first of his 71 Buller appearances, while Alex Fussell and Alan Moseley (who were to rack up almost 100 appearance between them) were in their second seasons.

Veterans Orlando Nahr, who was nearing his century of games for Buller, Rodney Dawe and Wally Forsyth contributed the experience to the team but despite the relatively small programme of six games, only six players were selected for all six games.

Games played were:

v. West Coast at Westport Lost 19-22
v. Nelson at Westport Won 14-13
v. West Coast at Hokitika Lost 12-6
v. Marlborough at Westport Lost 3-11 {Seddon Shield}
v. Canterbury XV at Christchurch Lost 6-20
v. Canterbury at Westport Lost 3-34

Scorers were:

v West Coast: Brian Stack (two tries), Don Stevenson (try), Alex Fussell (try), Rodney Dawe (penalty, 2 conversions)
v Nelson: Gerald Hart (try, 2 penalties, 1 conversion), Brian Murray (try)
v West Coast: Robert Murray (try), Gerald Hart (penalty)
v Marlborough: Colin Tinetti (penalty)
v Canterbury XV: William Nahr (try), Bernard Stewart (drop goal)
v Canterbury: Colin Tinetti (penalty)
