THE 1969 SEASON:

The 1969 season saw Buller playing 8 matches for only one win. However, the game which was won was one of the most important matches of the season, that against Marlborough for the Seddon Shield.

Sadly, the Shield tenure was brief. It was lost a fortnight later, in the first defence, to the newly amalgamated Nelson-Bays Union.

Buller also hosted the Tongan National team but the visitors proved too strong for the local selection and emerged victorious by 40 points to 8 Veteran lock Orlando Nahr edged closer to his 100th game and at the end of the season was on 98, while Brian Roche, the White Star hooker, brought up his 50th game for Buller in the Seddon Shield defence against Nelson Bays.

Although no Buller players were selected for higher honours, a number of the team played for the combined Buller-West Coast team which played Canterbury.

These were Barry Renwick, Alan Moseley, Bernard Stewart, Orlando Nahr, Robin Hughes, Alex Fussell, Don Stevenson and Terry O’Brien (who, despite this honour, did not play for Buller during the season).

Games played were:

v West Coast at Greymouth Lost 6-16
