RE: Rugby Return to Play at Alert Level 2

As you may have seen in the media today the government has confirmed, all sports – including rugby – can begin when our communities are given the green light for Alert Level 2.

This is very good news and we know our rugby community will be keen to be on the grass as soon as it is safe to do so. We want to make this transition back to rugby as smooth and simple as possible to ensure everyone is following the same guidelines and all our rugby communities are safe.

NZR has been preparing for a return to rugby. We are developing resources and templates to give clubs guidance around contact tracing, hygiene protocols and physical distancing.

These will be available in the next few days, and certainly before we move to Alert Level 2.

In the meantime, please take time to understand the latest Sport NZ guidelines and share with your clubs and members so they can begin to prepare.

While we all want to put the boots on as soon as we can, it’s important we get this right.

Use this time to prepare, and remember, until we reach Alert Level 2 no training or rugby can occur.

Thanks everyone for your patience and co-operation in what has been an incredibly challenging time for us all.
