THE 1920 SEASON:
The third Buller man to become an All Black was Charles McLean (Westport), who was in this year’s New Zealand side to Australia. A forward, Charles McLean played in two matches in New Zealand before the team left for overseas, and three in New South Wales; his selection followed an appearance for South Island.
The Seddon Shield was lost to Marlborough in the first challenge of the season.
West Coast being the season‘s only other opponent.

Seven Clubs were on the senior list, these being Hill United, Millerton Rangers, Mokihinui, Ngakawau, Westport, Westport Rival and Westport White Star Clubs; Granity Rover Club was without affiliation.
This season a South Island Country side was sent on a tour of the North Island. Buller was the only Seddon Shield Districts Union not represented in the combination, which also included players from Ellesmere, Ashburton County, Banks Peninsula and South Otago Sub-Unions.
