THE 1927 SEASON:
Preparations were made this year for New Zealand’s first ever visit to South Africa scheduled for the next season. A full series of trial matches were played, Buller having eight men under review. These were John Caldwell (Westport White Star), C.Kearns (Westport Rival), W.J.McNeight (Granity Rover), F.O’Brien (Mokihinui), Thos.O’Neill (Westport), E.Sherlock (Westport White Star), Geo.Stuart (Mokihinui) and R.G.Tunnicliff (Umere). One trial was held in Westport.

Two sides to visit Buller for the first time were New Zealand Maoris and Ashburton County.

The latter was later to be known as Mid-Canterbury, and had this season been given first-class status.

There were six representative matches in all:-

v. West Coast At Westport Won 14 to 12
v. New Zealand Maoris At Westport Lost 9 to 22
v. Nelson At Nelson Lost 11 to 18 {Seddon Shield}
v. Ashburton County At Westport Lost 19 to 25
v. Golden Bay-Motueka At Westport Won 20 to 11
v. West Coast At Greymouth Lost 12 to 23

Denniston Pirate Club was re-affiliated, whilst another Club to be formed and join up was Charleston Club (a new society) for this year only. Additional, too, was Cosmopolitan Club for three seasons; it was located at Waimangaroa.
