THE 1928 SEASON:
This was a quiet season for Buller, the Union’s activities actually being the same as those of 1926, a game being lost and another being won against West Coast, and a failure to lift the Seddon Shield from Nelson, thus:—

v. West Coast At Greymouth Lost 3 to 19
v. West Coast At Westport Won 14 to 13
v. Nelson At Nelson Lost 6 to 11 {Seddon Shield}

Whilst the New Zealand side was in South Africa, a New South Wales team visited.

The itinerary included three Test matches, the New Zealanders assembled for the final Test playing a match with a West Coast-Buller XV, at Greymouth beforehand. John Caldwell (Westport White Star), S.Lamont (Westport White Star), F.O’Brien (Mokihinui), M.Potter (Westport Rival), M.Robinson (Westport Old Boys) and George Stuart (Mokihinui) played in the combined side.

Another side to include Buller players this year was South Island Smaller Unions when competing against North Island Smaller Unions, at Palmerston North, George Stuart and R.G.Tunnicliff (Umere) participating.
