THE 1985 SEASON:

Buller remained in Division II for 1985 but lack of size up front was to prove a problem in many of the National Championship matches.

Although the season was a relatively busy one with 14 Representative matches, there were no visits from National or International teams.

David Baird continued as almost a one man scoring band, posting 92 points for the season, easily passing the 200 point mark and nearing the 300 points for Buller.

John Gilbert was as reliable as ever at halfback while the loose forward trio of Robert and Glenn Elley along with relative newcomer Thomas Stuart were rarely if ever outplayed.

A pall was cast over the season when Buller prop, Wayne Neville, was killed in a mining accident in Reefton.

Games played were:

v West Coast at Greymouth Won 20-18
