THE 1932 SEASON:<\/strong>
\nAgain eight representative games were played, five being won and one drawn. Successes included Seddon Shield wins against Marlborough, Golden Bay-Motueka and Nelson, and it was rather disappointing that the trophy was lost to West Coast after two previous meetings with the Red & Whites had been won. Earlier, Buller had journeyed to Christchurch for a Ranfurly Shield challenge; it was Buller\u2019s second challenge for the premier Shield, the other being away back in 1907.<\/p>\n

The fixtures in all were:-<\/p>\n

The composition of the side which played in the Ranfurly Shield fixture is worth recording, for not only was the challenge the first played by Buller in the South Island, but also that this was the initial season of the playing of the new scrummage formation, which was to mean the end of the wing-forward as such. Experiment was made of the 3-2-3 and 3-4-1 formations, the latter soon being adopted as the most suitable to New Zealand conditions.<\/p>\n

    The selection of E.C.Holder (Westport Old Boys) for New Zealand gave Buller its sixth All Black; he was chosen after appearing in the Inter-Island match. Usually played at centre-threequarter for his Union, \u201cEddie\u201d Holder was chosen as a winger, appearing five times in Australia, once at centre-threequarter, the other four matches \ufb01nding him on the wing.<\/p>\n

    W.J.McNeight (Granity Rover) this season made his second appearance in the Inter-Island match, being a replacement during the game. at Christchurch.<\/p>\n

    Inangahua Sub-Union became attached to Buller Union during this year on transfer from West Coast Union. The Sub-Union was active until 1935, when the organisation returned to its former Union; it had been founded in 1907 at Reefton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
