THE 1953 SEASON:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Again Buller\u2019s successes were limited to one win, and again the losses totalled four.<\/p>\n

Oddly enough, the victory was in the challenge for the Seddon Shield with West Coast, the latter and Canterbury being the only opponents during the year; the second meeting with Canterbury involved the Ranfurly Shield.<\/p>\n

Fixtures were:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nv<\/strong> West Coast At Greymouth<\/em> Won 8 to 0<\/strong> {Seddon Shield}<\/span>
\nv<\/strong> Canterbury At Christchurch<\/em> Lost 3 to 19<\/strong> {Ranfurly Shield}<\/span><\/p>\n

Late in the season the Fourth All Blacks left on tour of the British Isles, France, British Columbia and California. Selection was made after several group trials, one held at Nelson \ufb01nding five Buller players in George Anderson (Millerton Rangers), J.E.Cockfield (Waimangaroa United), W. M. Cunniffe (Millerton Rangers), G. R.Dixon (Granity Rover) and J. H. Hunt (Karamea) on the field. George Anderson, J.E.Cockfield and J. H. Hunt went on to appear at Christchurch also, but without any luck.<\/p>\n

Another Life Membership was granted at the Annual Meeting, the retiring President Mr J.P.McEnaney, being the recipient.<\/p>\n
