Farewell to Andrew Duncan: Celebrating 15 Years of Dedication to Buller Rugby

It is with a mix of pride and sadness that we announce the resignation of Andrew Duncan, our Chief Executive Officer, who will finish his remarkable tenure with Buller Rugby Union on January 10. Andrew will be stepping into an exciting new chapter, taking on a national role with New Zealand Cricket.

Andrew’s journey with Buller Rugby began in 2010 as a Rugby Development Officer. Over the past 15 years, his passion, vision, and relentless drive have been instrumental in shaping rugby across the Buller region. From growing grassroots participation to steering the organisation as CEO, his contributions have left a lasting legacy—not just in rugby, but throughout our community.

Reflecting on his time with Buller Rugby, Andrew shared:

“Buller is not just where I work; it’s home. The people here and the passion for rugby have shaped both my career and my life. While I’m thrilled about the opportunities for me and my family ahead, leaving this region and its incredible community fills me with sadness. I want to sincerely thank the Directors of BRU and our incredible staff. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey.”

Buller Rugby Union Board Chair Hugh McMillan said:

“Andrew has been a driving force behind the growth and success of rugby in Buller. His leadership, commitment, and ability to connect with people have been nothing short of extraordinary. He leaves Buller Rugby in a strong and healthy position, and on behalf of the Board, we extend our heartfelt thanks for all he has done.”

NZR GM of Community Rugby Steve Lancaster:

“Andrew has done an exceptional job leading Buller Rugby over the past six years. Under his leadership, Buller have strengthened their connection with New Zealand Rugby, with the best intentions for his community and participants always at the forefront of his thinking. We’re sorry to see him go from rugby, and we wish him well for his new role.”

Andrew’s legacy is one of passion, progress, and pride. While we will miss him greatly, we know he will excel in his new role, and we wish him every success in this exciting next chapter.

Thank you, Andrew, for 15 incredible years of service, leadership, and dedication. You will always be a cherished member of the Buller Rugby family.
