Tasman’s Marty Banks drew level with Otago’s Hayden Parker in the individual points scoring lists in the ITM Cup in his side’s promotion victory over Hawke’s Bay on Friday night.

Both players ended the season on 170 points while Ihaia West, the Hawke’s Bay first five-eighths, was one point back on 169 having claimed the Hawke’s Bay points scoring record in a national champion season from Jared Cunningham, who scored 166 points in 1994.

Lima Sopoaga’s 149 points for Wellington was third on their list for a championship season, 15 behind Jimmy Gopperth in 2007 and one behind John Gallagher in 1987.

Liam Edwards, who finished with 140 points, after scoring all of South Canterbury’s points in the finals victory over Buller, dominated the Pink Batts Heartland Championship while he completed the double by also being the competition’s top try scorer with nine tries.

Canterbury’s Kendra Cocksedge, with 87 points, was unchallenged in the women’s National Provincial Championship.
