THE 1941 SEASON:
Three of Buller’s four matches were against West Coast, the final meeting resulting in winning the Seddon Shield, a dropped goal (then counting four points) being better than West Coast’s penalty goal. The Shield had been lost to Golden Bay-Motueka the previous season, the latter being defeated by Nelson in the next game, and then West Coast defeated Nelson. This year West Coast had won against the other three challengers before Buller was successful.
The 1941 matches were:
v. West Coast At Greymouth Drew 6 to 6
v. West Coast At Westport Won 6 to 3
v. Marlborough At Blenheim Won 16 to 7
v. West Coast At Greymouth Won 4 to 3 {Seddon Shield}
Denniston Pirate, Millerton Rangers, Ngakawau, Waimangaroa United and Westport Old Boys Clubs had teams available for the senior competition, Westport and Westport White Star Clubs, whilst retaining separate identities otherwise, amalgamating to take part in the series with a composite side.
Buller was honoured this year by the election of Mr.W.A.G.Craddock to the Presidency of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union.
At this time Mr. Craddock was serving as Honorary Secretary-Treasurer of Buller Union.
