The Alexandra Park ground was very muddy, although the weather overhead was fine, and the forwards generally controlled the play. It was the nippy play of the Auckland backline, however, that brought the scores, the seven tries being scored in this order: Murray, Wynyard, Wynyard, Murray, Wynyard, Murray, Dillamore. Four different players attempted the conversion kicks, but without success.
The halftime score was 9 – 0.
