Canterbury, at full strength as in the previous match, proved too powerful. The challengers however bustled heartily in the first spell and Canterbury could manage only a dropped goal by fullback Roberts.
On the changeover King made a brilliant run from the lineout to short punt as he neared the fullback, and then run on to dive on the ball for a try, 7-0. From Canterbury’s own 25, Oliver secured, made a fast break down the centre to sell Graham a dummy and sent Brown across in the corner. 10-0. The final try came a minute before time when King finished off a dribbling rush by picking up and forcing his way across.
